G.C.S.A.C. - Gratiot County Substance Abuse Coaliton

We believe that the KEY to the prevention of substance abuse is providing education, training, and support to our community and their families. Offered to Gratiot County Residents:

  • What is GCSAC? The Gratiot County Substance Abuse Coalition is a collaborative countywide decision-making body of community members that meets to address the issue of substance abuse prevention in Gratiot County.
  • Free Parenting Classes - Child Advocacy offers a variety of parenting classes throughout the year. These include Nurturing Parenting, ACT Raising Safe Kids Program, and Positive Discipline.
  • Community Awareness - Social marketing campaigns aimed at educating community members about health and safety risks related to alcohol, tobacco and drug use.
  • Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance - County Police departments collaborate in the effort to reduce sales to minors across the county. Businesses are provided training and checked for compliance.
  • Data Collection - Our mission is to collect and share data in order to develop and implement prevention strategies which will result in community collaboration to reduce the misuse of substances among youth and adults.
  • Problem ID & Referral - This program is designed to identify youth at the early onset of risky behavior. Referrals can be made for youth who are exhibiting chronic school discipline, attendance concerns, substance abuse concerns, or concerning behavior at home. Screenings are free of charge.
    Prescription Drug Drop Box - Permanent drop box locations are available for prescription drugs at the Gratiot County Sheriff Department, 226 E. Center St., Ithaca; hours are 24 hours a day, 7 days/week. Alma Police Department, 525 E. Superior St., Alma; hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. St. Louis Police Department, 300 N. Mill St.,St. Louis; hours are Monday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Tuesday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Breckenridge Police Department 104 E. Saginaw St., Breckenridge; hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The sites accept prescription pills and patches.
