About Us

Child Advocacy Association was formed in 1976 by Gratiot County Professionals and citizens interested in working together to provide services for children and their families.  An office with 1 staff person opened in 1978, when we became one of the original 11 Community Coordinated Child Care (4C) Councils.  In November of 1982, the Gratiot County Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Council merged with Child Advocacy, and we became a charter member of the Michigan Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse.  In 1983, we were one of the first Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Programs funded through the Children's Trust Fund, enabling us to introduce the P.A.I.R. Program and BUBBYLONIA to Gratiot County.  In October of 1989, we were assigned Isabella and Clare counties as part of our service area under our 4C contract with the Michigan Department of Social Services (or Family Independence Agency, now Department of Human Services).  Gladwin County was added in 1991.  In 1994, Child Advocacy became a Designated Council for the Children's Trust Fund.  We have gone from a part time staff of one, to a staff of 16, working together on behalf of children and their families.

The mission of Child Advocacy is to improve the welfare of children and their families through education, training, and support for the prevention of substance abuse, and child abuse and neglect.
